LASIK is currently the most popular form of refractive surgery performed today. LASIK is a surgical procedure used to reduce or eliminate your need for glasses and/or contact lenses.
Family EyeCare Center will evaluate, prepare and manage your LASIK experience. We work together with the best surgeons in the area to ensure your experience goes smoothly. There are many factors that go into determining if this procedure is right for you. If refractive surgery isn't your best option, our doctors will find a solution that is.
Generally, candidates for LASIK should be at least 18 years old, have stable vision for at least a year, and have healthy eyes with no significant eye diseases. A thorough eye examination by an eye care professional will determine if LASIK is suitable for you.
How is LASIK performed?
During LASIK surgery, an eye surgeon creates a thin flap on the cornea using a microkeratome or femtosecond laser. The flap is then lifted, and a laser is used to reshape the underlying corneal tissue. The flap is then repositioned, and the eye heals naturally without the need for stitches.
How long does it take to recover?
The recovery time after LASIK is relatively quick. Most patients experience improved vision within a day or two, although it may take a few weeks for vision to stabilize fully. It's essential to follow post-operative care instructions, including using prescribed eye drops and attending follow-up appointments.
Are there any associated risks?
The success rate of LASIK is very high, but as with any surgery, there are the potential for risks which may include dry eyes, nighttime halos around lights, and rarely, serious complications. We and our surgeon partners will evaluate your potential for these risks, so that you can make an informed decision about what is best for your eye health.
