Dry Eye Disease

At Family EyeCare Center, our focus is on ensuring your eyes not only look their best but also feel comfortable and healthy. Many patients with dry eyes suffer with year round symptoms of: gritty or sandy eyes, excessive tearing, redness, pain and tired eyes.

Did you know that when tears evaporate too quickly, it leaves the cornea exposed? This triggers a response in the brain, making it perceive that there's something irritating the eye. As a result, the brain sends signals to produce more tears, leading to the characteristic symptoms of dry eye such as discomfort, redness, and blurred vision. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of dry eye is crucial in providing effective treatment and relief for our patients.

Dry Eye Evaluation

What to Expect

During a dry eye evaluation at Family EyeCare Center, you can expect a comprehensive assessment aimed at understanding the underlying causes of your symptoms. Our evaluation includes advanced techniques such as ocular surface imaging and meibomian gland imaging (meibography) to visualize and analyze the health of your eyes and tear film. Additionally, we may perform lid debridement and in-office expression to address any blockages in the meibomian glands and improve tear production. Tear break-up time measurement is conducted to assess tear film stability and identify areas of concern. Following the evaluation, our experienced doctors will provide a detailed treatment consultation, discussing personalized strategies to manage your dry eye symptoms effectively and improve your overall eye comfort and health.
