Dr. Joshua Russell is a residency-trained optometrist with specialized expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of ocular diseases. His clinical interests include primary eye care, contact lenses, laser therapeutics, and the management of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
A proud Kansan, Dr. Russell was born and raised in Topeka. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from the University of Kansas in 2018 and completed his Doctorate of Optometry degree at the University of Pikeville–Kentucky College of Optometry in 2024. He then pursued a Primary Care Residency with an emphasis in Ocular Disease through a collaborative program between Northeastern State University–Oklahoma College of Optometry and the Department of Veterans Affairs in Muskogee and Tulsa, Oklahoma, completing it in 2025.
Dr. Russell holds laser certification from the Oklahoma Board of Optometric Examiners and is an active member of the Kansas Optometric Association. He is deeply committed to the advancement of the optometric profession and is a passionate advocate for scope-of-practice expansion in Kansas. He is currently pursuing fellowship with both the American Academy of Optometry and the American Academy of Optometric Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Russell is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care and looks forward to building lasting relationships with patients in the Kansas City community. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his wife, newborn son, and their dog, Daphne. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoys hunting and fishing, time on the lake, golfing with friends, and cheering on the Chiefs and Jayhawks.
